Biography

As a professional nautical photographer with over a quarter of a century of experience, Matthew's talent is reflected in how he discovers unique perspectives, captures great motion, understands lighting and his extensive knowledge of the marine industry. He is respected by many clients, collectors, customers, colleagues, and competitors on both local and international levels. In today’s saturated industry and niche markets, Matthew believes that constant creativity, polished customer service and continued education are the three imperative tenets for long term success.

30 years ago, he experimented with 35mm film and later mastered the magic of developing and printing in his university darkrooms. It was then that he decided to merge his photographic passion and love for the sea towards a fulfilling and challenging career. Matthew graduated from Roger Williams University during the digital photography explosion and soon after, he was fortunate and grateful to work for two inspiring and illustrious industry leaders, Onne van der Wal (2 years) and Clint Clemens (5 years).

Matthew acquired his love of boating as a child and raced with the talented and successful Roger Williams University Varsity Team. Following his tenure with the RWU Hawks, he became an accomplished sailing instructor at the renowned Sail Newport Sailing Center (still the longest running Instructor for 25 years), and now has logged close to 40,000 ocean miles. Being a professional sailor for over 2 decades has given Matthew the best tools, know-how and ability to brave ends of super yacht bow sprits, dangle 100’ above the deck, or even higher in helicopters to produce exquisite works of art for many years to come.

With the rising demand of video, Matthew does not capture video himself, but rather subcontracts a number professional videographers to deliver quality content and faster than he could himself.

When not behind his camera, you may find Matthew networking and socializing in town, enjoying landsailing, flying sailplanes, or hand delivering his Fine Art to his satisfied customers and collectors in the New England area.
